Alex Cooke was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1987. A lifelong resident of Cleveland, he has quietly released both singer-songwriter material, as well as classical compositions. Known for his minimalistic approach in both guitar and piano playing, as well as composition, his work has been described as both emotional and slightly unsettling. His influences include John Frusciante, Greg Laswell, The Mars Volta, Stravinsky and Soul Coughing. Says Cooke, "I like to take the elements I hear in more popular and energetic music, such as Greg Laswell and John Frusciante, the rhythms, the dissonances, the focus on simplistic, but poignant melodies and to apply them with a classical hand." His latest releases include "Abluvion," a full-length mixture of guitar, chamber orchestra, solo piano and even electronic compositions, "The Lo-Fi EP," which as it suggests, uses a lo-fi recording style for its 5 singer-songwriter pieces and finally, the single "Song to the Siren," a cover of the Tim Buckley classic.
