Qusai, also known as Don Legend the Kamelion, is a multifaceted individual of Saudi Arabian origin, recognized for his contributions as an artist, producer, performer, master of ceremonies, singer, songwriter, musician, sound engineer, actor, poet, disc jockey, manager, promoter, model, and athlete. He holds a significant place in the history of Arabic hip-hop, being among the earliest artists in this genre and the first rapper from Saudi Arabia. Born on May 21, 1978, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Qusai spent his formative years in Jeddah before relocating to the United States in 1996. His engagement with the performing arts began at an early age, with performances around his household from the age of two, and by fifteen, he was participating in theatrical productions at his high school in Jeddah. At sixteen, Qusai embarked on a professional career as a disc jockey, subsequently performing at numerous events across the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. His career has been marked by collaborations with a diverse array of artists and performers globally, spanning both underground and mainstream spheres. Notably, he served as an on-air personality and disc jockey at WWPV 88.7 FM in Burlington, Vermont, from the fall of 1996 to the summer of 1997. Settling in Orlando, Florida, Qusai has become an integral part of the local music scene, gaining recognition in various Orlando-based publications such as Business Week. He has been actively involved in organizing, hosting, and performing at hip-hop events at venues including the House of Blues, Tabu, AKA Lounge, Will's Pub, The Social, Back Booth, and the University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems in 2002. His performances have also extended to other major U.S. cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, and New York. In January 2002, Qusai co-founded Eyesomnia Productions with Eric Casey, known as E-Cleazy or Eva Clear. This venture quickly gained traction, offering production services to hip-hop and R&B artists worldwide. By 2004, the company had evolved into Eyesomnia Enterprises with the inclusion of additional partners. Under this banner, Qusai has distributed thousands of independently produced albums, extended plays, and singles. Alongside partner D-Light, he also contributed to the emergence of Urban Legacy, often likened to Orlando’s equivalent of the musical duo OutKast. Qusai furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration from Webster University in Orlando in November 2004. The following year, he released his second solo album, "The Rebirth of Kamelion: American-Made, Arabic Original." In January 2007, he co-established Jeddah Legends, the first Saudi Arabian hip-hop company and group, cementing his status as a prominent figure in the Middle Eastern hip-hop movement. His collaboration with MTV Arabia as the host of the "Hip HopNa Show" marked him as a trailblazer in merging Arabic musical traditions with hip-hop. In July 2008, Qusai released what is widely regarded as his inaugural official album across the Middle Eastern market under Platinum Records, part of the MBC Group in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The album achieved significant commercial success, selling thousands of copies in its debut week and topping the Middle East charts, accompanied by several music videos. Qusai’s alias "Kamelion" reflects his versatile and resilient nature, adept at navigating various challenges. His deep commitment to hip-hop culture positions him as both a historian and an ambassador of the genre, with his career continuing to evolve and influence the musical landscape.
