"A" is a British pop punk band formed in the late 1980s by brothers Jason, Adam, and Giles Perry, along with good friends Mark Chapman and Stevie Swindon. The band was originally called Grand Designs after the song by Rush, one of the band's biggest influences.
In 1993, the band would change their name to "A" so they would be the first artist you saw in record stores. Their first single, 5 in the Morning, would be released through London Records in 1995.

This was followed by the singles House Under The Ground, Bad Idea, and No.1. Their debut album How Ace Are Buildings would finally release on 29 July 1997, with an unreleased American reissue being planned in 1998 through Epic Records. In 1998, the album did get a vinyl issue with a bonus disc of remixes and other unreleased rarities. Though Swindon had already left and been replaced by bassist Daniel P. Carter, the band would release some more singles around this time, including starting the A vs. Monkey Kong rollout by releasing Summer On The Underground on 10 October 1998.
