Hakkında Conga
Conga is a Cuban music genre that emerged alongside Rumba cubana during the late 19th century. In contrast to rumba and Danzón, conga is usually played in public celebrations that involve hundreds of people, such as Santiago de Cuba's carnival. Conga ensembles consist of a very large and heterogeneous percussion section and a small wind section (trumpets). They always include repetitive sung choruses. Rhythmically, congas tend to be simple and syncopated, and in consequence very danceable.

Depending on the rhythm and instrumentation, there are two main conga subgenres. On the one hand, conga habanera is characterized by a fast tempo and the use of trumpets, as well as a wide range of drums. On the other hand, conga oriental or santiaguera is distinguished by the use of the chinese trumpet ("corneta china") as well as other minor instrumental variations.
Over the years, conga has been influenced by Guaguancó, whereas conga has influenced both Afro-Cuban Jazz and the popular Pachanga. Two of the most popular musicians that helped develop conga during the 20th century are Chano Pozo and Carlos "Patato" Valdés. In the mid-1980s, Miami Sound Machine's hit "Conga", a combination of conga and Latin Freestyle, was internationally successful.
The term conga is not only applied to the music genre, but also to the dance, the musical ensembles that play congas, and the type of drums that forms the core of the percussion section.
