Formed in 2008 by Simon Spencer, Planet Fall was originally named Nightmist. The name Nightmist was chosen as it sounded similar to Simon Spencer's favourite band at the time Nightwish. Under the name Nightmist, three tracks were created, these tracks were originally destined to be the first three tracks on an album called "Magnetic Levitation". After the first three tracks were completed, Nightmist decided to upgrade the software that they were using to create and edit the music. The new software enabled a greater freedom in the creation of the music and increased the sound quality of the finished tracks but increased the difficulty in maintaining the same musical style. When the group came to making a fourth track, it was decided that as the music was going to be in a slightly different style, the group would also change its name and thus the Planet Fall name came about. It was decided that even though the original three songs were different, they would still have a place in the album, only now they are tracks five, six and seven rather than the first three tracks. This positioning of the tracks is meant to follow the style music produced by Planet Fall in that many of their tracks start with one tune and then usually one or twice in the track the tune cuts away to something completely different. Recently an eighth track has been created. This track is named "Phase I Complete" and will be the start of a second album called "Next Level".
