He began releasing synth-based recordings in the mid-2000s, receiving initial acclaim for the 2009 compilation Rifts. He later explored varied styles, including sample-based composition and MIDI production, on albums such as Replica (2011), R Plus Seven (2013), and Garden of Delete (2015). In 2013 he signed to British electronic label Warp. Lopatin has worked with artists such as Anohni, Tim Hecker, Ishmael Butler, FKA Twigs and The Weeknd and has also released several side-projects, including the influential Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol. 1 (2010). He has also composed scores for films such as Good Time (2017) and Uncut Gems (2019); the former won him the Soundtrack Award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
