Eufio was an all-female punk band from and in Minneapolis, USA, formed around 2002 and broken up by 2007. Its two permanent members were guitarist/vocalist Jenny Hanson and bassist/vocalist Kim Kopischke. It had at least two drummers during its tenure. Eufio were very clearly influenced by riot grrl bands (especially vocally) and by classic hardcore, but were comparatively quite melodic. Partly by virtue of having two out lesbian members, but mostly because of their sound, Eufio was a favorite act of younger gay and bi women in Minneapolis. Their shows on the (straight) club circuit became community events. This was very important in a town that, despite a perpetually thriving gay men's scene, has an almost underground lesbian scene - women's bars invariably go out of business before too long. (Briefly, in '02 and '03, there were two queer female punk bands in Minneapolis. The other was Punky Bruiser, but that band had to split when the singer broke her jaw in a bicycle accident.) Eufio's self-titled first release of 7 songs came out in 2003; their full-length album "Humoresque" was released in '04; and their EP "Auto Blitzkrieg" is from '06. Their name derived from the Kurt Vonnegut short story "The Euphio Question," in which the white noise extracted from a black hole is played en masse to people, and they become extremely euphoric.
