Project Filth 2000 (PF2K, or sometimes simply "Filth") is a bedroom project formed in 1999 by the enigmatic and tone-deaf artist known only as the symbol for cash, $, who wrote joke lyrics and recorded his first tracks using the ACID music studio program, samples from that program, and an old computer mic. Throughout the first years of the 21st century, PF2K became an impromptu musical collective for $ and his college pals. Whoever had an instrument and a buzz on would take an evening (or an afternoon) to write, compose, and record "some Filth," rarely doing more than one take for each song. "Another hit, next song," was their mantra. By 2008, $ had moved, but continued to write and record using the latest ACID program and samples (and a new Radio Shack mic), with the occasional visit from old contributors and $'s ever-present lack of any discernible talent besides his unerring ability to make himself giggle. PF2K's lo-to-no fi aesthetic can be described as outsider art, folk art, art brut, or barely listenable. $ has stated, "Filth is like if Frank Zappa, Pussy Galore, Wesley Willis, and Ween all got in a studio to record together, then got in a fight and left without recording anything, and then, thousands of miles away and several years later, some pals & I recorded something on my computer." Moving into the second decade of the 21st century, $ was still recording using ACID Music Studio samples and that Radio Shack mic. He began experimenting with samples from looperman.com, and dropped new ditties on Turntable.FM. The bulk of the PF2K discography took up 805.2 MBs on one's iTunes by 2012, but all songs remain officially unreleased. And, perhaps, un-releasable. PF2K is now defunct, and $ is dead.
