String Factory is the solo project for singer-songwriter and record producer Dino Brewster. Having produced work for several other artists over the years, Dino started recording and releasing solo work in 2020. The String Factory debut album Going South was written, produced, and almost entirely performed by the artist himself, alongside two EPs – all recorded in the artist's home studio in Bristol, UK, over the course of two years. Beginning the Going South album launch cycle, the Just Another Guy EP was released on 27th May 2021, accompanied by a music video for the title track. The video was made by a small team, and written and largely shot by the artist. The storyline depicts a person’s experiences revisiting their hometown, after having been away for many years, following a personal tragedy. The song 'Just Another Guy', which is also featured on the album, is a fast college rock styled song, with satirical lyrics around the topic of self-image and the passing of time. The EP also features 'Nothing Is Easy', which was the first track to come out under the String Factory name, released in November 2020. The album Going South launched 26th July 2021. The twelve tracks form a loose concept album, describing a man getting away from the doldrums of his dilapidated hometown, and his encounters and relationships along the way. The lyrics for the album deal with subjects including unemployment, nostalgia, failed relationships, and fear for the future. The music for the album is densely arranged, and references British rock music over the decades, with influences cited by the artist such as Supertramp and Manic Street Preachers. The EP These Are the Days was released in February 2022, and an industrial-rock remix of the song ‘St. Stephen’s’ by electronica artist DJ Rozwell was released as a single in September 2022. Beyond the String Factory project, Dino plays bass and produces records for alt-rock band The Proxy Youth.
