Artist Biography For Giuseppi Logan Quartet

The Giuseppi Logan Quartet Was A New York Based Free Jazz Group Lead By Multi-Instrumentalist And Composer Giuseppi Logan Who Had Collaborated With Archie Shepp Pharoah Sanders And Bill Dixon Before Forming The Quartet. The Quartet Consisted Of Pianist Don Pullen Bassist Eddie Gomez And Percussionist Milford Graves. The Group Recorded Two Albums For The ESP Disk Record Label. Pullen Later Departed From The Band Replaced By Pianist Dave Burrell. Burrell Was Never Featured On Any Of Giuseppi Logan's Recordings. A 1965 Press Release From ESP-Disk Indicates That A Third Album Was Planned But Never Released Possibly Due To Logan's Increasingly Erratic Behavior. This Title Was Supposed To Have Been ESP-1018 "The Giuseppi Logan Chamber Ensemble In Concert" But This Catalogue Number Was Eventually Assigned To An Album By The Fugs. Virtually Nothing Has Been Heard From Giuseppi Logan Since The Early 1970s And It Is Not Known Whether Or Not He Is Still Alive.
